Tips on traveling to Seoul ♥

We all wanted this trip to become one of the most memorable experience in our life.

Meeting your favorite oppas, watching concerts, shopping, experiencing their culture etc. And summer is already approaching, maybe some of you has a plan to visit Korea or some of you are currently planning. Whether you’ll be a solo-backpacker or in a group, let me help you by giving some basic tips that can help you in this trip.

FIRST and FOREMOST, have a passport first. Guys! Don’t book your flight first without getting your passport. Both the airlines and DFA isn’t responsible for your rebooking, suddenly became financially unstable because your flight was already approaching and yet your passport hasn’t been released.

  1. Book a schedule on DFA website. https://www.passport.gov.ph/ you can actually choose which branch you’ll be fit in based on your nearest location.
  • I booked a schedule last Feb 8 2017. I remembered that was the earliest date I can get when I checked DFA website last October 2016.

TIP: aside from choosing your preferred location, don’t forget your preferred time. And be there for at least 30minutes before your scheduled time. Better be early than being sorry.

Don’t worry, there’s already a step-by-step procedure on the website together with the fees and such.

  1. VISA OR BOOKING A FLIGHT FIRST?

Most of us are getting confused whether we book a flight first because it’s already on sale or get a VISA approved first then book a flight first.

Some countries doesn’t required any VISA approval in visiting their countries. In South Korea, JEJU doesn’t need to have any VISA approval if you’re planning to visit in there. But of course, you wanted to roam around Seoul city and other places in Korea, so go get a VISA approval first before booking a flight.

So head over to Korea Embassy in the Philippines website to check out their requirements and downloadable forms here: http://embassy_philippines.mofa.go.kr/english/as/embassy_philippines/visa/requirement/

After completing the requirements needed, you may proceed now to Korea Embassy. There’s no need for you to make an appointment. Just be there from 8:30 to 11am only. So don’t be late. Or your papers won’t be able to get processed.

TIP: If you’re planning to stay up to 59 days, worry no more because VISA fee will be free of charge. If you’re going to stay from 60-90 days, visa fee will be 1800php.

There’s a separate window from frequent travelers and first time travelers. Don’t worry as you will be guided which window you should be and you’ll be getting your number. After your number has been called, please proceed to your designated window and give out your requirements for a review. (They might ask you some questions so be prepared.) Then after that, they’ll give you a claiming slip indicating the tentative date of released date of your passport (hopefully, with a VISA approved one).

  1. Let’s all have a mantra so the VISA will be approved.

Okay this is a crucial one. We have to pray for our VISA to get approved. For first timers, usually it takes up to 5 business days for processing time. Releasing time is 1:30pm to 2:30pm.

Be sure to write your full name and your contact number at the back of your claim slip before claiming your passport. Another thing was this, depending on your requirements, you may be subjected to an interview. So unleash your annyeonghaseoh skills if you’re good in speaking Korean and if not, you may speak English preferably.

For more questions, you may proceed to their website here: http://embassy_philippines.mofa.go.kr/english/as/embassy_philippines/visa/requirement/
